

A celebration of life for George Derrick Davis of West Columbia, will be held at 1:00pm on February 16, 2015 at Dixiana Baptist Church, with a burial to follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm on February 15 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Mr. Davis died February 12, 2015. He was born in Columbia and was the son of the late Richard and Lucille Davis of Columbia. He was raised in the Earlewood area and attended Columbia schools. He was in the Army Military Police and served in World War II. Mr. Davis was also retired from the Federal government after 45 years of dedicated service from the VA hospital where he worked in the pharmacy. Furthermore, he worked for the State Fair Association for 40 years. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Master Masons, Scottish Rite, Jamil Temple Provost Guard, and the Sandlapper Camping Club, where he served as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, in varying years. Additionally, Mr. Davis was also a square dance caller at Earlewood Park in his younger days. An avid football enthusiast, he was a proud supporter of the Clemson Tigers, and Airport High School athletics.
Surviving are his sons, Bruce (Linda) and Chris (Michelle) Davis, and his three grandchildren, Devan, Cassidy, and Richard Davis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Lorine Williams Davis, his parents, Richard and Lucille Davis of Columbia, brothers Grover “Bub”, Marion “Mac”, and Cecil Davis, all of Columbia, and sisters Hurtlene Davis Beall of Columbia, and Katherine Davis Earley of Bartow, Florida.
