Jim was born on November 21, 1953 in a US Army hospital in Nuremburg, Germany. He was the first born son of James J. Feda, Sr. and Virginia Kulisek Feda. Jim was a lifelong South Carolinian after moving here in 1961 with his parents and siblings. He was a graduate of Cardinal Newman HS, class of 1971. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served across the globe aboard the USS Wainwright, stationed out of Charleston, SC.
Upon his honorable discharge, Jim enrolled in the school of Engineering at the University of South Carolina. He graduated with honors in Civil Engineering in May of 1983 and began his distinguished career with SC Department of Transportation that June. He served the state in various roles for 36 years, with 15 of those years as state Director of Maintenance and then the last 2 years of his career as Deputy Director of Intermodal planning. He retired in December, 2019.
Jim was a very kind and humble man, who enjoyed a simple, unassuming life. He was a gentle giant, standing 6 feet 5 inches, but filled with the Holy Spirit that was evident to all who interacted with him. Jim loved his savior Jesus Christ, his family, his country, and riding his road bike. He was an avid, lifelong reader of all types of literary genre and particularly enjoyed reading and studying the Holy bible over the last 18 years. He was also a very involved and hands-on “Peepaw” to his grandchildren, who often spent every weekend with him making incredible memories.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Michelin Ellis Feda, 2 sons, Joseph and Justin and their spouses, and 1 daughter, his precious Taylor, who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lilly, Jude, and Layne, who were his pride and joy! He was the beloved big brother of his sisters, Patricia, Catherine, and Karen along with their spouses and children. His only brother, Gary, also preceded him in death.
A visitation and remembrance celebration will be held on Friday, October 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 25 at Riverland Hills Baptist church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd. Private family burial will follow at Greenlawn memorial gardens.
