

James “Jim” Franklin Dry passed away unexpectedly at home after a brief illness on May 26, 2015. Jim was born on October 22, 1941 to Oscar Richard and Iva Lee Dry. He was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church. He was predeceased by his parents and loving wife, Judy. Dunbar Funeral Home and Caughman-Harman Funeral Home are assisting the family.
Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. “Papa J” loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. Jim was an active member of Widows or Widowers “WOW” and the Greater Columbia Widowed Persons Organization. He was a volunteer at Lexington Medical Center and a member of Boyleston Lodge #123. He was retired from Blanchard Machinery.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tina D. Armour (Lewis) and Teri D. Gamble (Billy); grandchildren, Amber A. Giles (Justin), Ashley Armour, Mattie Gamble, Michael Gamble, Will Gamble; and a great-grandson, Ford Giles. He is also survived by a special friend, Shelby Mishoe.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Ascension Lutheran Church, where Jim and Judy exchanged their wedding vows, on March 4, 1961. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 400 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29212 or Ascension Lutheran Church, 827 Wildwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203.
