

James Coleman Rowland II, known affectionately as Jim or Jimmy, passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 77 in Columbia, SC. Born on June 12, 1947, Jim was a man who embraced life with vigor and a deep-seated affection for adventure and camaraderie.
A proud alumnus of the University of South Carolina, Jim's zest for life was apparent in his diverse interests and hobbies. He was an avid reader and had an enduring passion for motorcycles, trucks, and travel, which he shared with a close-knit circle of friends and family. Jim was also known for his aversion to yard work, a trait that often brought amusement to his loved ones.
Jim's life was marked by the deep relationships he nurtured. He is survived by his brother, Douglas Rowland, Sr. (Socoro), his niece Kathy Solis, his nephews Douglas Rowland, Jr. (Jill) and Ethan Rowland, his nieces Samantha Rowland and Margaret Kinlaw (Chris), great-nephew Caden Kinlaw, niece Tracie Bowe (Michael) along with her children Alexander and Christopher Bowe,and nephew Mitchell Gunter. He also leaves behind his dear friends Robert Thompson (Mary), Danford Meischen, and Joe Herbert.
Jim was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Wanda Gunter Rowland, his father Everette Rowland, and his mother, Anna Rowland.
Jim will be remembered for his readiness to lend a hand and his capacity to love deeply. He was particularly close to his chosen brother, Bob Thomson, and his wife, Mary, with whom he shared many memorable adventures. His presence brought life to every gathering, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, there will be no memorial services. He believed in practical expressions of remembrance and would appreciate contributions to the American Heart Association, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or Columbia Animal Services in lieu of flowers. These organizations reflect his compassionate spirit and his commitment to making a difference.
