Janet Mizell Metz

COLUMBIA- Funeral service for Janet Mizell Metz, 78, of Columbia will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Irmo with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Irmo located at 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, South Carolina.

Mrs. Metz, widow of Harry L. Metz, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Summerville, South Carolina on July 24, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rene Abraham Mizell and Bessie Myers Mizell. She graduated from St. George High School and was a homemaker whom lovingly cared for her husband, five children and 10 grandchildren. She was a former member and past president of the Lioness Club, a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, and a devoted Atlanta Braves fan.

She is survived by her five children: Harry L. Metz, Jr. (Pam) of Columbia, Brian Metz of Irmo, Craig Metz (Kim) of Prosperity, Helen Epting (Jay) of Irmo, and Karen McKenzie of Murrells Inlet; her ten grandchildren: Whitney Metz, Rebecca Epting, Brian Metz, Jr., Andrew Metz (Kim), Morgan Metz Smith (Matt), Courtney McKenzie, Rachel Epting, Caleb Metz, Matthew Epting, and Taylor Metz; brothers Rene Mizell (Lee) of Elloree, Roy Mizell (Ellen) and Wayne Mizell (Susan) of St. George, and a sister, Linda Collins (Harry) of Branchville; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Hunter.
