Joan Spencer Perkins

IRMO - Joan Spencer Perkins, 82, of lrmo, SC died December 6, 2020. Joan was born on March 26, 1938 to Elmer Clyde and Anna Bryant Spencer in Chula Vista, California. She lived most of her early years in and around Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Western High School in December 1956. After graduation, she attended Baltimore Junior College where she met William Augustus Perkins.

Bill and Joan were married July 17, 1957 going on to have three children, William Christopher, Susan Spencer, and Elizabeth Harper. Joan was a stay-at-home mother and volunteer for many years. In 1980, she went to Frederick Community College graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1984.

After graduation, she worked as a nurse in nursing homes in Frederick, MD and Saluda, SC.

Joan and Bill retired to Saluda, SC in 1994, where they lived until 2016 when they relocated to Irmo, SC to be close to their daughter, Susan.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Anna Spencer; her son, William Christopher, and daughter Elizabeth Harper.

Joan is survived by William Augustus Perkins, 89, her husband of 63 years; her sister Winifred Dulany, her daughter Susan Saunders (John); grandchildren John Linker Saunders, Colby Elizabeth Perkins, and Michael Austin Perkins; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive visitors for 30 minutes before the service.
