Mrs. Edwards was born on May 31, 1922 in Richland County, SC to Sallie Wilson Sharpe and David Thomas Sharpe. She married John Jennings Edwards on January 21, 1944, and they raised a daughter, Pam, and a son, John. Early in her adult life, Mrs. Edwards held jobs as a salesperson and as a telephone operator. Later, she worked for Columbia College in their admissions office.
Mrs. Edwards had a passion for her church and was a devoted member of Dutch Fork Baptist Church for many years. She had a keen wit, no doubt sharpened by her love for crossword puzzles. She also was fiercely independent, thrifty, loving, funny, and strong-willed, traits that served her well in the years after her husband’s death in 1995. She kept her family and friends on their collective toes, and she is already greatly missed.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers and sister, and her husband John. She is survived by her children, Pamela Tidwell (Tom) and John Edwards (Donna), her grandchildren, Melissa Powell (Brian), Aaron Edwards, and Rachel Edwards, and her great-granddaughter Mae Powell (Melissa).
