COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Margaret Ann Cross Butler, 62, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2015, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Butler went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 13, 2015. Born in Burlington, N.C., she was a daughter of the late George W. Cross and Johnnie Madden Cross. She was a 1971 graduate from Walter M. Williams High School and received her under graduate degree and masters from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Butler retired in 2011 after 30 years of teaching from Irmo High School where she was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1998. She also taught in Laurens, S.C. and Burlington, N.C. Mrs. Butler was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Covenant Sunday School Class and the Hannah Circle. Surviving are her husband, George W. Butler of Irmo; son, Chase Butler (Samantha) of Irmo; daughter, Mary Margaret Butler of Charleston; and granddaughter, Madden Grace Butler. Also surviving are a sister, Cathy Chappell (Jerry) of Burlington, N.C. and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
