
COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Martha Cox Wenger, 89, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Bethel Lutheran Church of White Rock, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family. Mrs. Wenger died peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2015. Born in Heath Springs, she was the youngest daughter of the late Pastor Ford Todd and Ella Hargrove Cox, founders of Rosewood Baptist Church, where she sang from a young age. She became a professional vocal soloist, a member of Columbia Choral Society, and a lifelong actress and performer. She was proud of her long career as an administrator for Graybar Electric Company. As a member of the Ballentine Civic Association, she advocated for conservation of the area’s rural character during development. She was a skilled and gifted gardener, spending long happy hours in her greenhouse and yard. She is predeceased by her devoted husband William Philip Wenger, and her cherished daughter Diane Ledbetter Farmer, as well as all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived and missed by her son-in-law Joseph R. Farmer, her grandsons Joey and Drew Farmer and their families, her great-grandsons Max and Charlie Farmer, her niece Lynn Corbett, and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
