

Born on June 2, 1942, in Manning, South Carolina, Maryann was the daughter of the late Herbert L and Nomie Ardis. She was the beloved wife of Michael L Horton, who was also her devoted and loving caretaker for many years. Maryann was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, affectionately known as “Nana” by those who loved her most. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in each generation.
Maryann was a member of Mt. Horeb Church in Lexington, South Carolina, where she found comfort, fellowship, and strength in her faith.
She is survived by her husband, Michael L. Horton; her sister, Jean Malone (John); her daughters, Sharlene McMickell (David) and Sherri Kirkland; and her stepdaughter, Nora DeMay (David). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashleigh McMickell Schexnayder (David), Jeffrey McMickell (Laura), Jay Kirkland, step-granddaughter, Kimberly Kirkland Tuten (Daniel), and step-grandson, Ethan DeMay. Maryann is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Christian Schexnayder, Elizabeth Schexnayder, Katherine Schexnayder, Isobel McMickell, Oliver McMickell, Owen Schexnayder, Emerson McMickell, and step-great-granddaughters, Gracie and Neely Tuten.
In addition to her parents, Maryann was preceded in death by her siblings, Leard Ardis, Eloise Ardis Corbett, Wilbur Ardis, Herman Ardis, Clyde Ardis, and Vivian Ardis Epps, as well as her son-in-law, Ken Kirkland
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, South Carolina, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be sent to Mt Horeb Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington, SC 29072.
Maryann’s faith sustained her throughout her life, and her family finds comfort in knowing that she has been welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. Although she is no longer with us, her love and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
