Mavis P Monts

IRMO - A funeral service for Mavis Porth Monts, 98, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Irmo, is assisting the family. Mrs. Monts died Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Born April 7, 1917, in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Martin Porth and Ida Mae Leaphart Porth. She worked in Lexington Richland School District 5 as a dietician. She also spent part of her career working at General Electric, Belk, and as a beautician prior to marriage. Mrs. Monts loved to travel and enjoyed planning travel trips with family and friends. She loved playing scrabble with her sisters and was a member of Round Hill singing group. As a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she was very involved in many church groups and activities. Surviving are her sons, Billy Monts (Sissy) and Ronnie Monts (Rose); daughters, Loretta McEntire, Linda Duffie and Wanda Dial; sisters, Jenny Bruce Koon and Elsie Shealy; grandchildren, John, Joseph, Jacob McEntire, Lauren Spence, William and David Monts, Will and Matt Duffie, Christy Ashley, Marty Meloy, Austin Dial, Porth, Kesler, Joseph and Turner Monts; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph Monts, Sr. and brothers, Lucius and Boice Porth. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 10000 Broad River Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
