

IRMO - Services for Patricia A. “Patti” Handel, 61, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, with burial following in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, February 16, 2015 from 1-3 p.m., 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday, February 17 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Mrs. Handel passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 after an eight year battle with cancer. Born in Port Jefferson, NY, she was a daughter of Mary Ellen O’Connell Savoia and the late Humbert Louis Savoia. She worked at Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY as a registrar in the Emergency Department and provided in home child care for many years. Patricia was a member of The Cancer Survivor Support Group at Lexington Medical Center since 2007. She loved to read, being outdoors and was a Girl Scout Leader. She loved the Lord and was faithful in attending Gateway Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Patrick Handel; son, Marc Handel; daughters, Abby Mitchell (Travis) and Amy Handel. She was known as “Lia” to her grandchildren, Madison, Miley, Cameron and Landon. Also surviving are her mother; sister, Susan Ludlum (Dave); brother, Robert Savoia (Debbie); and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Medical Center Foundation, Cancer Care Fund, 2720 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC 29169.
