

COLUMBIA Major Richard L. Jones, an Officer in The Salvation Army for 60 years has been promoted to Glory on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Major Christine Jones, sharing 58 years of marriage together. Born of Canton, Ohio on November 2, 1934, Richard was the son of Frank T. and Elva Jones. He is survived by brother, Roy E. Jones of Youngwood, Penn.; sons, Gary Creswell (Debra) and George Willis (Linda); grandchildren, Richard Creswell (Chrystal), Billy Willis (Erica) and Sarah Willis; seven great-grandchildren; and loving puppy, Skeeter. Richard was commissioned with The Sword Bearers Session from The Salvation Army School for Officer's Training in Atlanta, Ga. in 1956. Saved to Serve, his 60 years as an Officer and 81 years of life were filled with sharing the love of Jesus Christ to all and following the mission, not only of The Salvation Army, but that of the great commission of his Savior. He loved his wife, his family and spoiled his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with pride. He will be missed greatly, but his life will always be celebrated. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at The Salvation Army, 3024 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC, with entombment in Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Major Roger Coulson, Area Coordinator and Pastor of the Midlands, Columbia, SC presiding, assisted by Major Richard Watts of Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
