
Samuel Lewis Adkins Federal Way- Funeral service for Samuel “Sam” Lewis Adkins, 65, will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo with burial to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Adkins passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015. He was born on December 31, 1949 in Anderson, SC; he was a son of the late Henry Grady Adkins and Mildred Evelyn Wood Adkins. He was a graduate of TL Hanna High School and attended The Citadel, graduating in 1972 with a BS in Civil Engineering and was the Front Guide of the Summerall Guards. After college he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutant in the US Army, serving on active duty from May 1972 through November 1983 and reserve duty from November 1983 through May of 1998. While in service he attended the US Army Engineer School Officers Basic and Advanced Courses and also the US Army Command and General Staff College. Mr. Adkins was employed with Corps of Engineers as Chief, Construction Division, US Army Engineer District in Seattle Washington. Previous assignment was as Chief, Construction Division, US Army Far East District in Seoul, Korea. Other assignments include work in Fort Belvoir, VA, Fort Lee, VA, Fort Stewart, GA, Republic of Philippines, Fort Worth District, USACE, and Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife, Un Joo Paek Adkins; sons, Clarence Michael Giddens (Jill); Ho Kyong Adkins, Seattle ,WA; daughter, Ji Yoon Adkins, Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Cameron Michael Giddens and Taylor Nicole Giddens; brothers, Henry Grady Adkins, Jr. (Marcia Kirkland) of Columbia, SC, Bruce Lee Adkins (Phyllis Deal) of Charleston, SC.; sister in law, Judy Deal; nieces and nephews, Carrie Lee Ann Adkins Davies, Susan Mildred Adkins Stabene, Mary Marcene Adkins, Kathryn Lee Deal Adkins, Henry Grady Adkins III, and Andrew Kirkland Adkins. He is predeceased by first wife, Yon Ho Giddens Adkins and brother, Allen Bomer Adkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to The Citadel Foundation.
