Born on February 5, 1942, in Columbia, S.C., Bill was the son of the late Edward and Clementine Blume. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Kay Blume.
Bill is survived by his daughter Kim Folsom (Eddie), son Bill Blume, Jr. (Sheri), grandchildren Ashley Melia (Casey), Lauren Ely (Micah), Savannah Sirois (Jordan), Regan Blume, and Liam Blume, great-granddaughter Sophie Kay Melia, and brother Stewart Blume (Carol).
After graduating from Dreher High School in 1960, Bill honorably served his country in both the U.S. Air Force and the Naval Reserve. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina College of Business, and then became a CPA. He spent much of his career as Accounting Director for the South Carolina Public Service Commission and also discovered a passion for teaching at Midlands Technical College, where his expertise, encouragement, and care left a lasting impact on students.
Bill was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and kind heart. He worked hard but always made time for others. He had a profound love for his family and a gift for making others feel seen and appreciated — whether through a well-timed joke, a homemade lemon meringue pie, or the perfect picture to capture a memory in the making.
He was a long-standing member and Deacon at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, and lived a life guided by faith in the Lord. He found joy vacationing in Hilton Head Island, running, listening to classic tunes, dancing with his wife, reading, and making milkshakes to share with his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Westminster Memory Care in Lexington and to Agape Hospice for their support.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Irmo, S.C. on May 22 at 2 p.m., preceded by a visitation at 1 p.m.
There will also be a livestream of the service at https://go.sapc.net/BillBService
