

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for William Henry Chastain, 73, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Union United Methodist Church, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Chastain died Monday, April 18, 2022. Born March 20, 1949 in Mauldin, S.C., he was a son of the late William Hugh and Mary Jameson Chastain. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Mauldin and attended Clemson University. Early on in his career he worked at the Department of Mental Health and then went on to be co-owner of Columbia Office Supply for most of his career. Following retirement, he worked as Marketing Agent for the Capital City Bombers and also did fundraising for Camp Discovery, a recreational camp for children on Blythewood, S.C. An avid Clemson fan, he was a member of the Letterman’s Club at Clemson University. He was an IPTAY representative and member in the Columbia Clemson Club and the Clemson Alumni Association. In addition, he was an active member and past leader of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Columbia and past member of the Columbia Sales and Marketing Club.
He was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce of Columbia and member of the Joy Class at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, S.C.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Sandra Cunningham Chastain; daughters, Kristi Chastain of Gilbert, Kimberly Flake (Gerald) and their children, Mary Alice Sturkie (Griffin), Sarah Flake, Caroline Flake, John Henry Flake, all of Lexington; son, Kevin Chastain (Emily) of West Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Chastain Blair.
