CHAPIN - William S. Harbin, 82. Born in Traveler’s Rest, SC, he was the son of the late Perry S. and Flora Moon Harbin. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel is assisting the family. Mr. Harbin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Joy of Living Sunday School Class. Mr. Harbin served in the US Navy from 1954-1956. Following his time in the Navy, he attended Newberry College on a football scholarship and graduated with his Business Degree in 1960. Mr. Harbin was retired following 31 years with Allstate Insurance Company. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Susan Batson Harbin; son Michael Harbin; daughter Robin Sheppard; grandchildren, Zachary Sheppard and Alyssa Nicole Sheppard. He is also survived by two sisters, Penny Ballew and Joy Massey. He was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Davidson, Lorene McCarter, Mildred Vest, Glenn Rodgers, and Corrie Love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive #301, Cayce, SC 29033.
