

Of Jackson, age 92, entered heaven on August 12, 2014. Cristy was born in Evangeline Twp. near Boyne City, MI December 3, 1921 to Edward and Myrtle (Phinney) Davis, and was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Louanne, six brothers, George, Henry, Ralph, Laurence, Ed, and Art Davis, and two sisters, Ruth Yahr and Edith Tillotson. He is survived by his children, Tom (Luba) Davis of Ohio, Dorne (Jill) Davis of Mount Pleasant, and Cristine (Mike) O'Brien of Virginia, six grandchildren, Scott and Andy Davis, Alison Couturier and Ben Davis, and Cris and Tim O’Brien, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, and nephews. Cristy sailed the Great Lakes aboard two freighters prior to U.S.C.G. Merchant Marine Pacific Theatre service during WWII, primarily aboard the USS Cape Perpetua. Married February 15, 1947, he relocated to Jackson, MI in 1949 where he worked in the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company powerhouse until retirement in 1983. An avid golfer, bowler, and bridge player, Cristy was also active with the BPOE, as a Little League coach, scoutmaster for Troop 411, elections supervisor, and mentor at Jackson Public Schools and Jackson Arts Acadamy. A 60-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cristy especially enjoyed his involvement with the men’s club and annual Christmas tree sale. Cristy loved the outdoors; he continuously maintained a home garden and preserved several large wildlife areas where he frequently walked. A member of SPEBSQSA and the Hillsdale Town and Country Chorus, Cristy was always free with a song, joke or story. A Memorial service honoring Cristy will be at Trinity United Methodist Church (1508 Greenwood at Fourth St.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 with Rev. Robert Q. Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
