Edith "Jo" Thomas

Passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the age of 81. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Thomas; children, Timothy (Linda) Thomas, Rose (Roger) Crouch, Alva (Becky) Thomas and Ruth (Patrick) Eby; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and sister, Pauline VanValkenburg. She was preceded in death by two sons, John Jr. and Michael Thomas; sister, Kathleen Kopke; brothers, John and Bill Powell and daughter in-law, Marcia Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was born in Tecumseh to Mack and Edith Powell. She was a graduate of Tecumseh High School and Spring Arbor College and taught Headstart in the 1970’s. She was very active in Church Ministries at Northeast Missionary Church where she taught Sunday school. She also would lead Neighborhood Backyard Bible Clubs at her home. She was a proud homemaker and loved her grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Northeast Missionary Church, 903 Virginia St. 49202, with Reverend Darren Pettifor officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Church or Malone University in her memory.
