“Oh no!” This is the typical reaction of friends and relatives who knew Fred for many years and also those who had the pleasure of meeting him recently. To know him was to love him. His smile and his humor was infectious, drawing us near and dear to him. His love was constant, consistent. He put himself “out there” for those who needed him. Our lives became far better for having known him, and his was better for having your love and support. He was married to Lois Jean Stewart, better known as Jean, for nearly 47 years. They met while they both were young, Fred being 16, and Jean 12. They “went steady” and then engaged for eight years prior to their marriage. Because Jean was too young to date, he waited for her to mature. Their relationship was unique, being each other’s best friend for nearly 54 years. Their love surpassed description. To their union were two girls, Lisa and Ayanna, and they adopted 3 of their grandchildren, Ayanna, Denika and DaQuez. They had 3 other grandchildren, Jevon Hampton, Kamila Hampton, and Deja Quinlan and one other special grandchild, Andrew Quinlan. There were 4 other very special children in their life that they either raised or with whom they spent significant, special time. They are David and Mark Stewart, Gregory and Vernon Thomas. Fred was instrumental in being a strong male role model for all of his children, and those of friends and relatives. To Fred, family and friends were the most important after God. Our lives and that of his wife, became far better for having known him. His intimate walk with God made him a beautiful man. He and his wife acknowledged God in all things and walked with Him daily. They attribute their deep and abiding love, and all that they have to God. We will celebrate his life in two ways: A visitation at Patience Montgomery Funeral Home on Sunday, June 01, 2014 from 2-5 pm will take place. In addition, another visitation will occur at Greater Bible Way Temple, 322 Madison, Jackson 49202 at 11:00 am on Monday, June 02. This will precede the “Celebration of his Blessed Life” at 12:00 pm. Burial Woodland Cemetery.
