Fred was in Jackson High School’s graduating class of 1956 and soon after starting at Albion College, was tagged with the nickname "Deacon ". After graduating in 1960 with Beverly, they married and soon after his nickname changed again when friends started to call him "Silver Fox". Fred was active in the Jackson Jaycees and Jackson Breakfast Rotary Club, serving as president for both. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher and was also involved in a number of organizations in the community, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren, especially cheering them on at various sporting events. Fred's love of dancing to good music, except waltz's, was evident throughout his life as he and Bev belonged to Ali-Baba and Winterset Dance clubs and their active attendance at many other dances. When Fred was once asked “when are you going to stop dancing?”, without missing a beat, Fred replied “when the music stops”. He loved the outdoors, whether it was falling asleep in his blind deer hunting, fishing on the St. Joseph River with his friend Ron or tending to his garden with his grandchildren. His family meant a great deal to him as well as the many friendships established and retained over many years. The family would like the thank Vista Grand Villa and Trellis Gardens for the love and care they provided to Fred. We would especially like to thank Tammy and Patrice from Careline Hospice, for their compassion and extra care he needed this last year.
