Jack Willis Vermeulen of Jackson passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on January 6, 1939 to Henry and Louise Vermeulen of Jackson, MI. Jack is survived by his incredibly loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Joyce Vermeulen; his children, Jackie (Steve) Curtis, John Vermeulen, and Jim (Becki) Vermeulen; his grandchildren, Mike (Casey) Curtis, Jessica (Andrew) Gilliland, Jim (Heather) Curtis, Stephanie (Weston) Lowry, Allie Vermeulen and Austin Vermeulen; and his great-grandchildren, Ben, Audrey, Lauren, Drew, Emily, Lawson, Mary and Abby. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Louise, his siblings Arthur, Ward and Sharon, as well as his Father-in-Law, Frank Hinton, and Mother-in-Law, Betty Hinton. Jack married his sweetheart, Joyce Hinton, on June 8, 1963, beginning a long and beautiful life together. He was a true family man, devoting his life to being a wonderful husband and father. When his kids married, he treated his in-lawed children as his own, and has enjoyed watching his family grow into a very large crew over the decades. He spent his career working at Wyman-Gordon as an Engineer until he retired in 1992 to Zephyrhills, FL. In 2014, he and Joyce returned to Michigan to be closer to family, continuing to visit Florida during winter months for as many years as they were able. Jack’s passion was going camping and traveling across the country in his motorhome with his favorite travel partner, his beloved wife. He could often be found enjoying simple pleasures, such as putting a puzzle together, working in his “man cave”, or playing cards with his wife. He loved spending time with his family, especially going on camping and ATV trips together up north. Ultimately his favorite person to spend time with was his wife, Joyce, who was his best friend, and has been a phenomenal caretaker for him across the years. Jack fought hard to live as long as possible, and his strength was admired by all who love him. The family wishes to thank the staff at Fresenius Kidney Center for his care during dialysis treatments; as well as the staff at Henry Ford Allegiance who showed such strong effort during his care, and tremendous compassion during his transition, especially toward his loved ones. A Funeral Service will be held at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, 49202) on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the Service. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
