Of Jackson, MI passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. He worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections for 35 years at SPSM, Parnall and Cooper Street Facilities, retiring in 2016. He was a member of the South Central Michigan Bass Casters for more than 40 years, serving as the President and several board positions, in addition to earning Angler of the Year 12 times. Jim loved fishing. If he wasn't in a tournament, he was practicing for a tournament. In the winter he watched tournaments on TV, shopped for fishing gear, and talked about fishing. If you ever had a conversation with him, fishing or something related to it was included. Jim was also a talented carpenter and all around fix-it man. His legacy lives in the lives he touched. His memory is in the decks, planters, fireplaces, and numerous other "projects" he completed around the house to stay busy. Jim was preceded in death by his mother Pearl and father James. He is survived by his wife Patricia, sister Kathy (Bill) Maurer, brother Scott (Melissa) Rice, step children Carl and Jennifer, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and long time best friend through thick and thin always there for him Mike (Tanya) Pritchard.
Family will receive family and friends Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. with service at 11:00 AM at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI 49202).
