Joyce Madeline Smith

Of Jackson, MI passed away with family at her side on January 30, 2017 at the age of 95. Joyce was born on November 21, 1921 in Jackson, MI to Vern and Vera Gebhardt. Joyce married the love of her life, Fred Smith on August 27, 1945. She was a homemaker. She also loved to travel with family, taking a trip to see the fall colors every year with her daughter. She was a social butterfly, enjoying everyone’s company and loved being with all her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Tigers, Lions, Spartans, and the Wolverines. Joyce is survived by her children, Fred (Carol) Smith and Kim (Phil) Zyla; grandchildren, Carrie Smith, Catie (Josh) Johns, Aimie Smith, Jake (Nicki) Zyla, Phillip Zyla, and Matthew (Rachel) Zyla; great grandchildren, Campbell, Cooper, Cassidy, Jocelyn, Jeremy, Candace, Charlotte, and Wyatt; siblings, Shirley (Elwood) Gebhardt Fairley of Jackson, MI and Don Gebhardt of Granby, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and three siblings. The family would like thank the staff at the Summit Park for all the care and support that the staff gave Joyce during her stay. They also would like to thank Dr. Adamczyk and Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice for the care they gave to Joyce. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00am at the funeral home with visitation held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Joyce will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice or Summit Park Assisted Living.
