Marilyn Ann Nieman, 80, a lifelong resident of Mount Clemens, passed away Friday morning, September 28, 2018, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan, as a result of a cancer diagnosis she received just 4 months previous. She was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan, on June 21, 1938, youngest child of the late Walter and Helen (Hampcke) Niemann.
Marilyn was a 1956 graduate of Mount Clemens High School. She briefly worked for AAA in Mount Clemens after high school. She spent 24 years working for Crowley’s Department Store. Marilyn was a voracious reader, a huge fan of the Detroit sports teams, loved the color purple, and was fiercely independent. She lived life on her own terms and was determined not to be a bother to anyone. She was very smart and loving, with a wit that was sharp, you missed it if you didn’t know her well enough.
Marilyn is survived by six nieces and nephews: Mark Nieman of Mears; Lloyd Nieman of Wasilla, Alaska; Dawn (Trent) Mitchell of Jackson, Janet Nieman of Hart, Michael (Judy) Priehs of Fraser, Daniel Nieman of Clinton Township. She is also survived by 9 grand nieces and nephews: Amber, Matt, Tara, Trisha, Lloyd, Kara, Jennifer, Jessica, Savannah; 10 great-grand nieces and nephews: Harper, Matthew Jr, Nicholas, Kailee, Alycia, Eryn, Myryssa, Allysen, Michael, Braiden; and numerous cousins. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Helen Nieman; Siblings: Agnes Denryter, Walter Nieman, Melvin Niemann, Harold Nieman, Gladys Priehs; nephew Keith Nieman; niece Renee (Nieman) Frinkle; great-grandniece, Namine-McKenzie Denton. Per Marilyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be next to her mother at Clinton Grove Cemetery, Mount Clemens. A memorial service and luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Italian-American Cultural Center, 43843 Romeo Plank Road, Mount Clemens, which currently stands on the former site of the Walter Niemann family farm, where Marilyn was raised and lived until 1961.
