

Martha Jean Moten, 84, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on January 11, 2022, under the care of Henry Ford Allegiance Health System, and the presence of her sister, children, and grandchildren. Martha was born to Arthur and June VanAuken, on June 15, 1937, in Battle Creek, Michigan. As a child, she excelled in school. She started her career as a Pre-School teacher for many years before becoming an employee at Jackson Interfaith Shelter. She was employed at the Jackson Interfaith Shelter for over 25 years as an Assistant Manager, advocating to prevent homelessness and supporting vulnerable families. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and hosting community gatherings at the Jackson Interfaith Shelter. She was very active with her quilting hobby and playing bingo. Martha was proceeded in death by her Husband Clevester Moten, Sr and her beautiful daughter Kimberly Joe Moten, her parents, and her grandparents. Martha leaves to cherish in her memory her beautiful sister Beverly Wardell, of Battle Creek, MI, three daughters Teresa (George) VanAuken of Jackson, Michelle (Jessie) Buchanan of Detroit, MI, and Brenda Moten, Of Jackson, MI, and Dr. Clevester (Kathy) Moten, Jr., of Jackson, MI. 13 grandchildren George (Gipper) Brown, ShyAnna (Tossie) Brown, Presious Reynolds, Kimari (Sherman) Wagner, David Gibson, Jr., Porsche (James) Wright, SharRonnie (John) Garrett, Asia Knight, Raven Gibson, Shaquille Gibson, Justice Moten, Derrick Boothe, Jr., and Lailah Moten. She also leaves to cherish in her memory her 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchildren. Martha will be missed by so many, especially those she had the privilege to be part of her life over the years.
