

Raymond Anthony Sobocinski, 91 years of age, died peacefully Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Henry Ford-Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, Michigan. Raymond was born on January 4, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Edward and Mary Sobocinski. His spouse, Bernice Derouin and son, Ronald Sobocinski, had predeceased him. He is survived by his eight children: Mary Ann McCarty (Lawrence Turpening), Raymond (Marrilee) Summers), James Sobocinski, Michael (Lynn) Sobocinski, Matthew (Teresa) Sobocinski, Andrew Sobocinski, John (Tina) Sobocinski, Daniel Sobocinski. There are ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Raymond grew up and was educated in Detroit. He also raised his family there and was employed by the Ford Motor Company while working many years as a photographer. He belonged to the St. Suzanne Catholic parish; later in life, he became a parishioner of St. Rita Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus. His work experience as photographer led him to an expanded career path as a director, producer, and camera operator. He served in WWII and was proud to wear the emblem on his hat when he travelled about. He had a lively personality and always willing to expressed a friendly word or short story to those around him. He enjoyed the sport of golf and fishing and spent long hours on his enduring hobby as a wood- carver. Raymond was generous with his time and would invite all to his confidence, always listening closely to the latest events of each member. He provided good council and positive emotional support . He enjoyed being in the presence of his large family during holidays and special occasions; and no holiday gathering was complete without him arranging us for the commemorative family picture. As time passed, he grew increasingly reliant on the love and support of those around him and was grateful for their steadfast commitment to his wellbeing. Raymond loved his family and friends; and in turn, we loved him and will miss him dearly.A memorial service will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church located in ClarkLake, Michigan, on Wednesday October 26th 2016. Pre-mass gathering in Greeting Room 10:00am, Church Mass at 11:00 am. Fr. Thomas Helfrich, O.S.F.S will officiate. Reception follows mass at Clark Lake Golf Course.
