

On Monday, December 12, 2016, the angels came and took Stuart E. Lake to Heaven, at the age of 92. Stuart E. Lake of Horton, MI passed away peacefully with the love of his life, Hazel and his family at his side. Stuart will be remembered by his wife of 64 years, Hazel; four children, Sandra Lake of Saline, MI, Michael Lake of Jackson, MI, Deborah (Dale) Garrison of Spring Arbor, MI and Pamela (Fred) Stein of Vandercook Lake, MI; five grandchildren, Michael D. Lake, Michelle L. Lake, Rachel L. (Richard) Jackson, Ashley R. (Dylan) Copp, and Hailey B. Stein; four great grandchildren, Collin Nelkie, Tyler Jackson, Jillian Jackson and Rory Copp; nephew, Gary (Nancy) Cornish and niece, Shirley Brooks. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, George Lake Sr. and Stella Benn Lake and step-father, General Lee Congleton; infant daughter, Cynthia Ann Lake; brother, George Lake Jr. and sisters, Janice Cornish and Dorothy Furlong. Stuart graduated from Jackson High School and earned a degree from Michigan State University. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII with the 113th First Army, Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded three bronze stars; one good conduct ribbon and a victory medal. Stuart was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 32 years, retiring in 1984. Stuart was active in the union and held many offices. Stuart and Hazel owned and operated Lake’s Adult Foster Care Home for 20 years and also owned C & L Grocery Store in Norvell, MI. Stuart enjoyed traveling with his wife Hazel and daughter Sandra to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Atlantic City. He also enjoyed watching football, basketball, and horse racing. Stuart was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Poppy) and great-grandfather. A service celebrating Stuart’s life will be held at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mr. Lake will be laid to rest at Norvell Cemetery in Norvell, MI.
One day we will be in Heaven with you, until then we’ll find our joy and comfort knowing you are there waiting for us.
