

Theresa Ann Golombek Johns left us on March 24, 2014. On March 5th her children and grandchildren celebrated her 86th birthday. Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, Theresa was one of eight children born to Joseph and Anna Golombek. Theresa was a very accomplished woman and held many titles in her 86 years. She was the Region Personnel Manager for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She also worked for Comerica Bank and the Michigan International Speedway. She was active in the American Business Women Association she was chapter president and in 1993 the ABWA Woman of the Year. Theresa raised five children and yet found time to volunteer at St Joseph’s Orphanage. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters. St Demetrius Orthodox Church Sisterhood, The Bell Club and Comerica Retirees.
Theresa’s most cherished title in life was that of “Mom” and “Grandma.” She lived for her children and grandchildren. Theresa was the center of her family and loved spending time with them. She taught her children well, and imparted high standards for living a good life through a lifetime of teaching by her own example of faith, respect for others, good morals and ethics, always providing an endless supply of love and pride for her children and grandchildren. She was loved by anyone who ever had the honor to meet her. She was the neighborhood Mom whose home was always open to the friends of her children. She was the Grandma who was always there for whenever her grandchildren needed her. Theresa was “Mom” and “Grandma” to the friends of her children and grandchildren. She was the favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews. Theresa had a zest for life and family which was demonstrated throughout her entire life with family celebrations and shared traditions. Theresa loved a good time and was a good friend to all who knew her. She was always ready for an adventure, she celebrated life with joy and finesse. She blessed our lives with her wisdom; her unselfish giving heart; her never-ending love and joyful spirit. We were blessed to have her as our Mom… she was THE BEST! Her family will love and miss her for all the rest of our days.
She is survived by four children, Anne (Robert) Bartkus, Angelo (Marilyn) Johns, Donna (David) Baxter all of Jackson and Mary Johns of Clark Lake and four grandchildren: Angela and Nicholas Johns, Jonathan Bartkus and, Nathan and Elizabeth Baxter. She was preceded in death by her daughter Yvonne Johns. Also proceeded in death: James Johns, in-laws Angelo and Ida Johns, parents Anna and Joseph Golombek; sisters Emily Golombek, Mary Grymko, Helen Urnyowicz brothers Edward, Ernest, Leo Golombek .One brother survives, Theodore Golombek along with several nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death was Theresa’s best friend, Helen Irene Cockburn.
The family wishes to thank Allegiance Hospital and Allegiance Hospice Home for their excellent, loving and compassionate care of our beloved Mom. They were angels and their kindness touched our hearts and will never be forgotten.
Theresa’s family will receive friends at the Charles J. Burden and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday March 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 AM with Father Tim Nelson officiating. Private burial in St. Johns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary Child Care and Development Center, 110 East Wesley Street, Jackson Michigan, 49201 would be appreciated.
