Of Hanover, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the age of 81, while under the compassionate care of the staff at Henry Ford Allegiance Health. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; three children, David (Betsy) Southern, Cindy (Don) Heathman and Lynn Neelis; eight grandchildren, Tim (Scarlett) Neelis, Stephanie Heathman, Joshua Neelis, Kelli (Adam) Arbuckle, Matt (Jenny) Southern, Amanda Heathman, Billy and Steven Southern; five great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by nine siblings. Bill was the seventh child born to Jonah and Mary (Simmons) Southern in Raven, Virginia on December 18, 1935. He served in the United States Army. Married Dorothea Carolyn Brewer “Carol” in McArthur, West Virginia on January 15, 1960. They relocated to Jackson and raised a family. He worked as an upholsterer, enjoyed playing music and loved his family. He touched the hearts and lives of many and he will be greatly missed. According to his wishes cremation has been chosen and Mr. Southern will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.
