Alice Chao Pinner, age 99, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Orange Park, Florida. She was born on October 16, 1926, in Essex County, Virginia.
Alice moved to Jacksonville Beach in 1951, where she built a joyful and fulfilling life until relocating to Fleming Island in 2022. Known for her infectious spirit, Alice was truly the life of the party — she loved to dance, laugh, and celebrate life surrounded by friends and family.
She was an active and devoted member of First Christian Church in Neptune Beach and proudly served in leadership roles throughout her more than 50 years with both the Women of the Moose and the Order of the Eastern Star.
A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Alice’s home was always open for family gatherings, celebrations, and reunions. Her kindness, humor, and welcoming nature made everyone she met feel like family — she truly never met a stranger.
Alice enjoyed her later years at Allegro, where she formed many special friendships and shared almost four wonderful years with residents and staff. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her dear friend and caregiver, Norma Chao, for her devoted care and companionship during those years.
Alice was preceded in death by her husbands, Manuel Chao and Rudolph Pinner; her son, Wayne Melvin Flippen; and her daughter, Faye Flippen Selig. She is survived by her granddaughters Amanda Eaves, Allison Flippen, and Christine Ridge; grandsons Dale DeWayne Flippen and Thomas A. Selig, Jr.; stepson Joseph Wayne Chao; and son-in-law Thomas A. Selig, Sr.
A memorial service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held Friday November 14, 2025 at 2:30pm at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
