Anthony Elrod, lovingly known as “Ace” to some of his family, "Uber" to many of his friends at the Legion, and “Cowboy” to his coworkers, passed away tragically on May 9, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, at just 25 years old. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Anthony lived life fully, loudly, and unapologetically as himself. His passing leaves an unimaginable void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Anthony was the kind of person you never forget. He was funny without trying, always ready with a joke, a story, or a way to make people laugh when they needed it most. He had a huge heart and a thoughtful nature that showed in the way he cared for the people around him. Whether you knew him for years or only briefly crossed paths with him, Anthony made you feel like family.
He was most at home in his cowboy boots, jeans or overalls (usually without a shirt) and rarely seen without his cowboy hat. He loved the simple things that brought people together — evenings spent at the American Legion, a glass of whiskey in hand, a cigar nearby, surrounded by friends and laughter. He was proud to serve as the Commander of The Sons of The American Legion Post 283, which brought him so much joy and memories that will be referred to by friends for years to come. He carried himself with a rugged spirit, but beneath that was someone deeply loyal, caring, and full of love.
As a child, Anthony was full of endless energy and constant mischief, always finding something to climb, explore, or get into trouble over. Some of his happiest memories were the summers spent in Georgia with his family and cousins, making memories that would become stories retold time and time again. He loved fishing, shooting guns, and good 'ol country music.
More than anything, Anthony loved his people. He leaves behind his father, Brett Elrod and his fiancé Donna Bradley; his mother, Elizabeth Higgins; his sister, Alana Hansen, her husband Kyle, and nephew Cooper; his girlfriend, Taylor Horsley; along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known him.
Anthony was deeply loved, and the impact he made in just 25 years is greater than many make in a lifetime. Though his time here was far too short, the stories, laughter, and love he gave so freely will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
