

Beckwith Lockwood James Bowen was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 2, 1921. Becky was the daughter of the late William Gaillard Lockwood and Florence Beckwith Lockwood, and granddaughter of John Percy Beckwith, Florida East Coast railroad pioneer. Mrs. Bowen attended Potomac School and National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C.; she graduated from St. Mary’s College, Raleigh, NC.
Becky was a member of the 1940 Debutante Coterie. She was married to the late Harry Richards James, Insurance Executive, in 1941. Becky was active in the Junior League of Jacksonville, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, and a member of the Huguenot Society. She was a member of Timuquana Country Club, Florida Yacht Club and Ponte Vedra Club and Lodge. She and her husband, Dick James were members of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Jacksonville where they were active in the Faith Alive movement. In 1975, they moved to Amelia Island Plantation where they were founding members of the Amelia Island Chapel. Dick James passed away in 1995. In 2000, she married, retired Merrill Lynch executive and close family friend, Buford Bowen. They lived in Ponte Vedra Beach and were communicants of Christ Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her son, Harry Richards James, Jr., her daughter, Gail James Brent (John), grandchildren Elizabeth “Bebe” Brent Alexander (Ted), John William Brent, Jr. (Anne) and James Oliver Brent (Mary Jane); great-grandchildren C. Kirby Alexander II, Edward Roe Alexander, Jr., Margaret Tillman Brent, and Catherine Simms Brent; and sisters-in-law, Ann James Doswell and Norma Kent Lockwood.
A memorial service will be held 2pm Thursday, June 13 at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Blvd. Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
