Carolyn Parsons Fox (nee Fahrenhorst) passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 28, 2023. She was born on July 3, 1925 in New York City, daughter of the late Otto Fahrenhorst and Jeanne Rolph Fahrenhorst. She grew up in NYC and attended Barnard College. She modeled bridal gowns and in June 1948 donned her own to marry Robert L. Parsons in the church of the Heavenly Rest where she had been baptized. They moved to Larchmont, NY, and had two daughters, Linda Jeanne and Carolyn Lucille.
Bob, Carolyn and their daughters moved to Jacksonville in 1959 when he accepted the post as the first Director of the Cummer Gallery of Art. He died in 1961, ten days prior to the Gallery opening.
Carolyn was a docent at the Jacksonville Children's Museum (now MOSH) and served as president of the Women's Guild in 1975 - 1976. She served as chairman and volunteered for many years with the Nutcracker Ballet. She also headed, along with her good friend Anne Renfroe, Home and Abroad, a high-end travel company that specialized in trips to the eastern United States, Canada and the British Isles. They accompanied each trip never taking clients "where we had not gone before". Carolyn was a member of Acacia and Clover Garden Circle, Cummer Art Gallery and the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Parsons White (Robert), grandson Brandon Parsons White (Wendy), great grandson, Charlie Harris White, stepson John L. Fox, Jr. (Margie), and their daughters, Talley Fox Roberts (Ronnie), and Leah Fox Fryefield (Warren). She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Parsons Skerl and son-in-law Carl M. Skerl.
Her wishes were that her remains be cremated and buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband Robert L. Parsons. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens.
