David Wayne Tolbert

MMCM (SW) Ret. David Wayne (Wayne) Tolbert passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on September 15, 2024 after battling lung cancer for 7 years. He was born July 28, 1939 in Yoakum, Texas to Doran David and Prebble Ruth (Hill) Tolbert. He graduated from Hallettsville High School, Hallettsville TX, in 1958. He met the love of his life, April and they were married November 3, 1962 in Victoria, Texas.

He retired after serving 30 years in the United States Navy in 1988.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, April, his daughter Yvonne, his son-in-law Timothy Flournoy, his granddaughter Rebekkah (Jesse) Link, his sister Betty Ruth (Tolbert) Zentner, several nieces and nephews, and his precious and beloved great-grandson Sean Link.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lois Wanda (Tolbert) Schroeder, and two brothers-in law.

His favorite Bible verse was from 2nd Timothy 4:7- “I have fought the good fight and I have finished the race.” Some of his most precious times were spent camping and fishing with his great-grandson Sean. He continues to watch him and tell him to “keep his eye on the ball” as Sean plays baseball wearing his Papa’s #23. Papa will always be by Sean’s side and in his heart. Fair winds and following seas Master Chief, Wayne, Dad, Grandpa, Papa. You fought a good fight and you won the race. You will be greatly and sorely missed by all who knew you and loved you.

A visitation and reception for David will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 12:30 PM, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250. A burial will occur Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
