Donald Jacob Schneider Sr.

Donald Jacob Schneider, Sr., 101, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 24, 1924. He graduated from Central High School in Evansville, Indiana and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Upper Iowa State University.

Donald Jacob Schneider, Sr., was a World War II Army veteran who was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars for his participation in the battle for Normandy and Northern France. He also awarded the French Croix de Guerre, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Donald was proud to be a Life Member of the 1st Division (Big Red One).

On September 3, 1949, he married the former Ruth Higginbotham. They were married for 71 years before she passed in 2020. Don had a career in hotel resort management as VP and GM at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Resort. He was a member of the Oceanside Rotary Club, and First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife, Ruth Higginbotham Schneider. He is survived by his children, Donald Jacob Schneider, Jr. (Jessica), Patricia Schneider Allen and Nancy Schneider Taylor; grandchildren, Michele Allen Platt, Fredric Anthony Allen, Jacob Thomas Schneider; great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Quinn Platt.

Graveside service with military honors, will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 30, 20206 at H. Warren Smith Cemetery, Jacksonville Beach, FL. Please wear patriotic red, white and blue to honor Don's life and service to our country.
