Prominent Beaches resident, Finis Reuben Bennett, Sr., 82, passed away March 6, 2013. Mr. Bennett was born in Chattanooga, TN and moved to Atlantic Beach in 1957. He was instrumental in the development of the beaches community where he worked as an investor, land developer and builder, restaurateur, grocer and owner of Bennett’s Garage for more than 30 years.
A member of Maranatha Baptist Church, he served as president of his Sunday School class, VP of the Kiwanis Club and was a devoted and hard-working family man.
Preceded in death by his son, Thomas Ray Bennett, Sr., survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sara Bennett; sons, John Alan Bennett and Finis Reuben Bennett, Jr.; daughter, Jayne Dee Bohannon; brother, T. Jack Bennett, Jr.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL. A celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12th in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Beaches Memorial Park.
