Harold Reed Jr.

REED- Harold “Bud” L. Reed, Jr., 85, passed away January 28, 2011. A native of Jacksonville, he began his career with the City of Jacksonville Beach as a fireman, he later transferred to the police department and retired 1978. Bud served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WW II, and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Stephen Ryan Reed.

Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 65 years (anniversary February 15, 1946) Betty; three sons, Dennis Reed (Dianne), Stephen Reed (Linda), and Gary Reed (Kristi); a sister, Gladys Livingston; four grandchildren, Anne Marie Thomas (Art), Andrew Wayne Reed(Sarah), Dustin Reed, Maggie Reed, and Ryan’s wife, Katey Reed; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Thomas and Sophie Rose Reed.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in H. Warren Smith Cemetery, Jacksonville Beach. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
