Mom,
I will start by saying that today is Thanksgiving and it will never be the same without you.I sat at your house today with a  heavy heart. It did make me smile when I thought about going to Petes and I will always remember how hospitable you were to all of my friends when we would show up with 5 or so extra people after Thanksgiving at Petes. You never wanted anyone to be alone on a Holiday and did your part to make sure that never happened. You always worried about everyone and always put their needs in front of yours. On our last day together we joked about that damn turkey jerky sandwich that the hospital tried to feed you and we made sure that didn't happen. You got to eat what you wanted and even then you asked me 20 times If I wanted it. I have to admit that there were times where I was a little annoyed at how much you babied me or tried to make sure I was ok but I would do anything to hear your witty snaps at whoever you thought was giving me a hard time. You always put everyone in front of you even at the end at the hospital when your first words to me were "how are you feeling". I am glad that I could be there for you and I have no regrets.You know how much you are loved and I hope that I lived up to your expectations. You are never alone and the family that you built will push forward and continue the legacy of Helen and AC Forbus. You touched so many lives in such a positive way and I know you will never be forgotten. I could write for days but I will end this with an"I Love You Mom" and I will see you and Dad again one day. You will always be in my heart.

I met Helen and A.C. when Lowell and I married in 1971.I remember so many good times we had ,not enough room to list them all.I remember when they had Chris and came to Birmingham to see us .Chris was fussy and was wearing Helen out so I took him and fed him mashed potatoes.Helen just knew he would have a tummy ache and said if he was up all night I had to take care of him, he slept all night. We moved to Jax, Fl after  Michelle was born. She was Lowell's little seashell. She was my little doll.A.C. and Helen had a love like very few get to have,it withstood the good and bad but held true. After Lowell and I divorced I was always treated as family and they were so good to Stephanie when Lowell passed away.When A.C. passed away I lost a brother ,and now I have lost a sister. Even when we didn't see or talk to each other very often ,the love was always there. All the good time at their house ,the dogtrack, the beach. I know how much Chris, Michelle,  Greg, Chelsia and Conner meant to you. Helen, give A.C., Sallie, & Lowell hugs from me. We will see each other again when God calls me home. I have had a hard time figuring out just what to say about Aunt Helen. Her and Uncle AC were always there for me, from opening their home and  arms to me every summer so I could spend time with my Daddy to doing it again when I lost my Daddy. I know I would not had gotten through that without them. They both were with me every step of the way. Aunt Helen would set with me and let me cry on her shoulder and she would pat me and rub my hair with her long beautiful nails and tell me how much my Daddy loved me. She was that way to everybody. She was open and caring. And I loved to hear her laugh!! And the way she would call Uncle AC "Forbus"!! They had a love for each other like nothing I have ever seen. I think my best memory was one summer while I was visiting she want to paint her bedroom. We wanted to paint our names on the wall and she let us. She thought it was funny! Then of course we painted over it, but she let us be kids. She never took life too serious. She left a mark in this world that will never end. She lives on in Chris, Michelle, Greg, Chelsea, and Conner. Not to mention all the others that she touched that was forever changed by knowing her. I love you Aunt Helen and will miss you!! Give Uncle AC, Daddy, and Mawmaw Sally a big hug for me.

Tuesday, November18,2014                                                                    Helen My Loving Sister! Wish I could just pick up the phone and hear you say whats up? Always there for me to talk to sometimes half the night drinking coffee,to laugh with and we were always doing that,to cry with over the years we did enough of that to fill a bunch of rivers,You were always my shoulder ,sometimes we both used your favorite brother in laws!So many memories a lifetime has! You  are with AC and all our family! No more pain! You and AC raised 3 wonderful children  and 2 grandchildren you were proud of and loved! Iam proud too and love them they are our family! You always had a lot of friends who loved you !   Helen there is so much I could say I Was Blessed To Have you For A Sister!!!!! In My Heart Forever!!!!!Miss YOU So Much!!!!!!Love You!!

Mrs. Helen was one brave, strong, quick witted lady with a big heart. She will truly be missed. I became very close with Mrs. Helen this past year and no matter how sick she became or how weak she got, she always wondered how I was doing & wanted to help me hash out the problems of the world. She was a beautiful example of a loving mother, grandmother, wife, & dear friend. We had many laughs together & joked that I was her adopted daughter. I know that she made many of her children's friends feel that way over the years. She left us way too early but I know that she's up in Heaven reunited with her true love, free of her chemo that she so hated, & dancing with joy while looking down on us all with a smile.

What a legacy you left and what an amazing outcome of a life you had. I am truly blessed to have been able to call you MY Memaw. God knew what He was doing when he placed you in the lives of us Forbus'- He knew you'd do amazing work raising your children, grand-children, and even your children's friends. You, my love, are the most amazing woman I've ever met. Your life, love, laughs and smile will hold true here on earth and you will never, ever be forgotten. I'm glad I got to be a witness and a part of watching your love spread so openly in our family's life. I'm going to miss walking in your room in the most hideous of outfits and always hearing "Baby, you'd look beautiful in a potato sack!" When I get a craving for ice cream, I'm going to miss hearing "BRING ME BACK A BANANA SPLIT!" Boy, what I would give to just have one more banana split with you. There's no one else in this world I'd rather get a first tattoo with- I'd do it over and over again if it meant spending another crazy day with you. Thank you for all of those sweet, sneaky and amazing times. But now, you're with the most amazing man I've ever known in my life- Papaw. And man oh man, what a lucky man he is! I love you, princess. Give Papaw a big neck hug for me. Don't take 'em all! I'll see you when I see you. Until then, keep watch over us crazies. I hope to make you proud!

Mama Forbus, you loved your children well and it's clear by all the friends of your children, that you taught them to love others well also.  Michelle has been a wonderful friend to me, always, and she could have only learned that being raised in a household full of love.  I've always felt so comfortable and welcome in your home.  I'm so grateful to be one of the special kids that got to hang out in and out of your house during my growing up years.  I love your baby girl, and will make sure she knows she is not alone.  She has lots of us taking care of her, Chelsia & Connor, and also Chris and Greg.  I could only hope to finish my life, loving others as well as you have.

I had many memories at the Forbus house, Helen was always standing at the kitchen counter when you walked in the door ! I always felt like part of the family at the Forbus house,  Helen and A.C. made sure you didn't go hungry!! I feel very blessed to have The Forbus family in my life! Helen you'll be greatly missed??

I met Helen 4 years ago after being introduced by the love of my life, Michelle.  She welcomed me with open arms and the feeling of knowing her a lifetime.  She always had a comforting way about her.  I wouldn't think there would be a soul that she could not get along with.  She was always friendly to everyone even going through her most difficult times, I saw it first hand when taking her to some of her doctors visits - when she arrived, all of the nurses had smiles on their faces.  Every trip I made to Florida she always had a way of making me feel like I was already a part of the family.  Over the years I could see the love she had for her kids and grandkids, all of them were different and she never favored one over the other.  
She has done a great job as a Mother passing all of her wonderful ways onto Chris, Michelle & Greg as they are also always very welcoming & loving to me.  I've seen her share alot of love and laughter even while she was sick.  She was always joking and laughing with her sister and brother-in-law like there was nothing to be worried about.  
She always called me her "son-in-law" and I hope soon I will make her proud by having that title, I will end this by saying that I miss and love you "mother-in-law".  Love, Kevin

Memaw,
There will never be words to express how precious my memories of you are. I loved that you were always ready to ride to cruiser's with me and demolish a huge burger with me, and while we stuffed our faces you kept me laughing the entire time. I never knew what to expect to come out of your mouth, you were such a firecracker and you didn't care what people thought. I admired your strength and positivity, sometimes I wondered how you did it. I'll also never forget the wonderful conversations about the love we have for our men, your love for AC always reassured me that there was never anything in this world stronger than true love. Thank you for all your advice, all the laughs, and all the memories that I will forever hold very close to my heart, you left an imprint in my life that will never fade.  Just know that every time I have a margarita I will smile and think of you. I love you very, very much and I miss you so much.

Mom,
I am so thankful for your constant love and support.  I am thankful to have been by your side these past two years as you battled this horrible illness.  You never once gave up and never once let anyone believe that you weren't going to beat this sickness.  
Thank you and Dad for showing us love, courage and selflessness.  Thank you for being a loving Memaw to Chelsia and always reminding her that she is beautiful, talented and deserved the best - the same way you made all of us feel.  
I hope that we continue to make you proud and honor you in every way.  You made us proud by fighting hard to stay here on this earth with us each and every day you did.  We will miss your funny words, laughter and love.  It makes my heart happy to know that you are with our God and reunited with Dad.  I know everyday I am here without you that it will bring me peace and a smile to my face knowing that you are with the love of your life.  Thank you for loving me Mom.  I know that I will see you again, but until I do - watch over us and help us stay strong these coming days, weeks and years.  I know you will be with me the day I say "I do" to Kevin and I know you will be smiling.  I love you and Dad with all of my heart and am forever grateful for your love.

Your mom was a special person and I know I don't need to tell you that. Going over to your house growing up was comfortable and loving, but you had to stay on your toes with Helen because nothing got past her. She always asked about my family. I will always be grateful to her for the mother she was. Your parents raised three terrific kids. You are blessed to have a Forbus as a friend. They are selfless, generous, thoughtful to no end and I know where they got that from. Your mom was VERY proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved them more than anything and it showed. Rest in peace sweet friend I will see you again.

Michelle, Chris & Greg ~  your mom was very special to me (as was your dad).  I've known them for all but 12 years of my life.  I have nothing but fond (and some very funny) memories of the time spent in your home throughout the many years. If a couple of years went by and I walked in, they were as warm and inviting as if I'd been there every day.  Your mom will be missed without a doubt.  She lives on in the three of you and your children.  Hang in there because she wouldn't have it any other way.  Prayers and love to each of you.

I have many fond memories of Helen in knowing her over the last 14 years.  She was such a kind person who dearly loved her children.  Chris and I would often go eat at Famous Amos when she worked there, and I remember her smile and how her face lit up when she saw him.  Helen also developed a relationship with my family when she worked at Fairfield Inn.  When my family stayed at the hotel, Helen and my mother would often meet early morning to have coffee together and chat.  Helen routinely expressed to my mother how much she loved and was proud her children & grandchildren.  I know this is an incredibly hard time following her loss, although I hope the memories of her love and dedication to her family will bring comfort in the days and years to come.

Chris, I was deeply saddened when Karen told me of your mother's death. Your mom was very special to me and she and I shared many conversations over coffee through the years. She loved you very much and was so proud of you. I know you will miss her. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, along with your siblings, during this difficult time.

She will remain in our hearts and has placed memories to be cherished forever! She had so much love and cared for each of us like we were her own.

Helen and our families go back to 1963, I guess you could say one way or another our families were meant to be  close.We could all ways  count on each   other. Like the time she called me and wanted me to come over because there was a snake in her kitchen, She couldnt find it and she had poured hot water on the floor((.Doug and AC had gone fishing)) so I came over wearing boots.  I got the mop and Helen got the broom, we moved the fridge and Helen was sweeping water and I was looking for the snake  suddenly out came the snake all 12 inches . Helen swept the water so hard  it went into my boots We were both screaming and jumping up and down. I guess he was as scared as we were because he sure left in a hurry the back door was open and he went out . We looked at each other ann burst out laughing. That is only one memory My heart holds many memories like what a kind loving person she was, what an awesome wife and mom she was. She loved her family  with all that was in her . Helen and I were friends for 52 years I have life time of memories that were shared with our families.Chris, Michelle,.Greg, Chelsia, and Conner your Mom and Memaw will be with you always.Love you all    Joyce

Helen had an incredible way of making someone feel welcomed and loved by just entering her home.  Hugh and I wish to extend our condolences to Chris, Michelle, Greg, Chelsia, Connor.  We hope you find comfort knowing that your parents/grandparents are reunited.
