Joshua Luke McNeill, 27, of Jacksonville Beach, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016. As a life-long son of the Beaches, Josh grew up playing on the sand, swimming and surfing in the ocean, playing soccer on the San Pablo fields, and playing music with his friends in different bands, performing at Freebird Live and other local venues. Joshua attended First Baptist Weekday Ministry for preschool, Seabreeze Elementary, Fletcher Middle, and Fletcher Senior High schools. He also took some classes at FSCJ and UNF.
Joshua always had a special interest in music, and he could sing and play many instruments, including piano, guitar, and drums. He had been active at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach growing up, and he even led the youth praise band for a short period of time. Joshua liked to travel. In high school, he took a trip to Europe with classmates. Joshua drove across country four different times, and he spent two summers working in Glacier National Park at the Many Glacier Lodge in Montana.
For the last few years Joshua was working here in Jacksonville in the service industry, and, most recently, he was working in retail sales, where he was just awarded the “Beyond the Best” award for his sales record. His Manager said that Joshua was a real asset to their team and was very good at his job.
Joshua was loved by many family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Charles E. and Doris S. McNeill, his sister Martha (Austin) George, and grandmother, Rosie McNeill, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will definitely be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Narcotics Anonymous World Services in Joshua’s memory.
