

Lucia was born September 15, 1948 in Anniston, Al. She returned to Jacksonville, Fl and started school at Assumption, then Southside Middle, then Englewood High, and graduated from FSU in 1971 with her Bachelors in Education. She went on to the University of North Florida where she graduated with her Masters degree in 1975.
Although she started out teaching in the class, she found her true calling when she accepted a district level job in the Exceptional Student Education Department. At the end of her teaching career, she was not only teaching students how to read she was training teachers the best practices to teach their students how to read. She was at the top of her game and was contacted by the US Department of Education to review the reading programs of Mississippi and Kentucky. She ended her 30+ years in education in 2012.
After retiring she and her husband, plus several other couples traveled to Europe several times, visited many cities in the US, and went to many home and away games of The Noles. Often times going shopping while her husband attended the game.
She is survived by her husband, John of 53 years, twin “boys”, Chris (wife Gina) and Jon (wife Missy), all living in Atlanta, as well as 3 granddaughters, Charlotte, Emme, and Palmer.
A private service was held on September 7, 2025.
