

Millicent Walker Goins, 83, left this life on January 8, 2013, following a lengthy battle against numerous chronic conditions. She was born April 13, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida, and attended Saint Pius Catholic School and Boylan Haven Preparatory High School for Girls. She attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (1951) and a Master of Education degree (1968). She was a teacher in the Nashville Public School System for 27 years. While living in Nashville, she was an avid member of the folk dancing community, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Girlfriends. Millicent returned to Jacksonville in her retirement and served as a substitute teacher in the Duval County Elementary School System. She was also a loyal member of Arlington Congregational Church and sang alto in the choir.
She is preceded in death by husband Edward Tyrone Goins and son Stephen Carlton Goins. Surviving are sons Edward Tyrone Goins, Jr. and Kenneth Mark (Sheila) Goins and grandsons Kenneth Jr. and William.
Millicent will always be remembered for her zest for life and her determination and will. A celebration of her life will be held, Sunday, January 19th at 2:00 at the Arlington Congregational Church, 431 University Blvd. North, Jacksonville, FL 32211. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Arlington Congregational Church or the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
