Born in Oak Park, Michigan on May 25, 1948 to George and Frances (Foksa) Duquette, Monica graduated from Rochester High School in 1966, and received both her Bachelor’s degree and her MBA from University of Michigan. After graduating, her career was focused in marketing technology, retiring as a Director of Marketing for EDS in 2000.
Monica was a rare individual who possessed the unique ability to make those around her always feel welcome and accepted. This skill was put to the test in December of 1983 when she married, James D. Cote’ (Jim) and embarked on an amazing journey that combined her two daughters with Jim’s three sons. Together they spent the next 40 years as dedicated parents where Monica devoted herself to loving and supporting her newfound family.
While the years accumulated and children transitioned to adults, Monica continued her passion for helping others that began as a teenager where she volunteered with Leader Dogs for the blind in Michigan. Following retirement and a move to Tucson, Arizona with Jim, Monica joined Alpha Gamma Delta to mentor students at the local chapter. Years later, she trained one of their golden retrievers as a therapy dog that visited local nursing and therapy centers to support those needing comfort.
Years of service culminated with Monica pursuing her faith to complete religious course work and become a commissioned Lutheran lay minister at Abiding Presence Church in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She ultimately found her spiritual home ministering at the Fleet Landing (retirement) community in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Her commitment involved providing faith-based services to ensure all residents had access to worship and to participate in their faith.
Monica is survived by her husband James D. Cote, children Dr. Heather Kopff (Frederick Kopff IV), Holly Priebe (Kurt Priebe), Robert Cote’ (Denise Cote’), Kevin Cote’ (Elizabeth Cote’) and Brian Cote’ (Patti Cote’). Grandchildren Frederick Kopff V, Nicholas Kopff, Michael Priebe, Ryan Cote’, Alec Cote’, Aidan Cote’, Samuel Cote’ and Callen Cote’. Great Grandchild Ainsley Cote’
As a person who loved music, painting, baking, and exploring and experiencing the world Monica will forever be remembered and loved. A celebration of life has been planned for 11:00am on December 29, 2023 at the Windward Commons @ Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Her interment will follow on March 3, 2024 in the Memorial Garden of the Lutheran Church of the Foothills in Tucson, Arizona.
