It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Peter James Sheldon. He lost his battle with cancer at home on Friday June 20, 2025 with his wife and daughters at his side. He was born in Fulton, New York on July 14, 1945 to the late Kenneth A Sheldon and Jane Sheldon. He was a great man who leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Deborah Sheldon, his sister Mary Sheldon, and his two daughters Kerry Uerkvitz and Erin Sheldon. He also leaves behind three grandsons Christian Uerkvitz, Jacob Schwamb, and Garrett Uerkvitz. Pete grew up on the muck farms of Northern New York harvesting onions and lettuce on his family's farm. He was proud of his family's legacy to agriculture and providing food to our country. He eventually left the farm and joined the US Navy in 1964 to become the lead mechanic on the #2 plane for the Blue Angels. After his time in the Navy he married, worked for FMC, Outboard Marine and the Holliman Company. They eventually settled in Atlantic Beach, FL where he ran a successful business, created long time friendships, and fostered a home for his family. He was known for being the "Mayor of Sea Oats Drive," his crawfish boils, and a friend to everyone. Pete was well known in the fishing community as well. If he wasn't at home, he was on his boat somewhere offshore chasing fish. "Sheepshead Sheldon" was his nickname and is still known today. He will be remembered and celebrated on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Atlantic Beach, FL at 6:00PM
