Peter Strain, 74, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, died Sept. 20, 2010, of cancer at the Community Hospice Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring. He was born in Summit, NJ, and raised in Mountain Lakes, NJ. He graduated from Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass., in 1958. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1958-1964. Semper Fi.
Pete spent 23 years as an executive with Union Camp Corp. and 21 years as a financial advisor with Kidder, Peabody and Co. and Merrill Lynch, retiring in 2002.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Lorena Strain, sister Reny, brother John and his beloved wife of 39 years, Helen Strain.
He is survived by daughters Trish Strain, Eileen Porter and Molly Zickuhr (Monty), and grandchildren, Phil and Matt Porter and Jack, Kate and Emily Zickuhr.
Pete devoted much of his time helping others in his involvement with many charities including the Diocese of St. Augustine, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Community Hospice and the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach with Monsignor Daniel B. Logan and Bishop John J. Snyder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring , 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
