

Peter Wynkoop of Jacksonville, Fl, passed away at Mayo Clinic Hospital on Monday evening, December 8, 2025, following an accident at home. He was predeceased by his parents Stratton and Nancy Wynkoop and Brother Jonathan Wynkoop.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Frances, his sons Andrew (Lori), Richard McDowell (Kelly), daughter Susan Cagle (Darren), grandchildren Patrick McDowell, Lauren Sleight (A.J.), Tyler McDowell (Megan) and Olivia Gesner (Noah) and 9 great-grandchildren, sisters, Katrina Simmons (Richard), Linda Oswald, Susanna Cottrell (Steve), and Claramarie Burns. Pete was born in Long Beach, Ca. He was a career naval officer (33+ years) active service with commands at sea and ashore. He enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and served two tours in Vietnam and with Commander In Chief US Navy Europe. He enrolled in the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program and attended the University of Colorado. Earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, he was commissioned in 1973. His tours included USS Bronstein, USS Chowanoc, USS Jonas Ingram, SIMA, USS Gallery, USS Exultant, USS Illusive, USS Engage, USS Stark, USS Abraham Lincoln and Fleet Training Center. In 1998, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Jacksonville University. Following his retirement, he taught Macro Economics at Jacksonville University and later the HPW Group doing economic impact studies. Pete was a founding member of Jacksonville’s Naval Order of the United States. He was a member of the Meninak, sang with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus and Singers-by-the-Sea. He enjoyed Porsches and his beautiful family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, located at 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 32250, United States. The service is scheduled for December 15, 2025, starting at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra or the Mark Kopp Foundation
