Richard R. Parkinson “Dick”, 88, passed away September 30, 2010. Born in Richmond, VA, he retired from the U.S Navy having proudly served in WW II as part of the Black Cat Squadron flying as a Radio Operator aboard PB-Y’s. He was a longtime resident of Neptune Beach and charter member of Ocean Park Baptist Church. Upon retirement from the Navy, he worked for both John Hancock and Independent Insurance companies and owned Leather Goods Shop. Dick was an avid horse lover especially his Palomino, “Pal” and served as a Cub and Boy Scouts leader for many years.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 67 years, Leatrice Parkinson; son, Richard R. Parkinson, Jr. (Suzanne); daughter, Nila Harding (Bob); grandchildren, Becky, Ricky (Shayna), Michael, Robert (Rebecca) and Holly; and one great-grandson, Alex.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5th , in the Chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL. Interment will follow with full military honors at Beaches Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
