Richard (Dick) Steinbroner, of Jacksonville FL, completed his voyage on earth today, August 17, 2016. He was born on October 13, 1947 in Salamanca NY to John (Jack) Steinbroner and Shirley (Stephens) Steinbroner. He is survived by sons John Steinbroner (Charmagne) of New York (grandsons Jackson and Jacob) and Richard Steinbroner (Suzanne) of North Carolina (grandsons Aiden and Campbell), sisters Lois Smith (Richard Hurlburt) of California, Janet Travis (Chuck Grinols) of Great Valley, NY, Nancy Wogick (deceased) and Anne Despues (Clyde) of California. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the country.
After graduating from Salamanca High School in 1965, he worked for CSX and later was drafted into the US Army in November 1966. He served during the Vietnam war at which time he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon his return from Vietnam he went back to work for CSX at locations in Buffalo NY, Chicago IL and then Jacksonville FL, where he lived until his passing.
Richard married Florence Day in 1970 they had two sons (John and Richard Jr.). They then divorced in 1989. In 1993 he married Charlene (Malanowski). Charlene passed in 2013 in Jacksonville FL where they called home for over 20 years. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1002 and Life member of the VFW, Post 5296.
Richard retired from CSX in 2007 and continued to live out his days at home in Jacksonville. He was the self proclaimed community watch captain, where he enjoyed seeing his neighbors walk their dogs past his home. He would sit on his front stoop where he could see the several cats that he fostered, including Prince-ee, Princess and Duchess. If he was not found outside enjoying the weather he was inside watching some of his favorite TV programs. If it was between 11-12 it was never a good idea to call. He would not often answer during this hour. The Price is Right was never the same after Bob Barker; retired just ask him and he would tell you that fact!
Per his request there will no formal viewing or service. A private service will be held at his final resting place at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville FL. In lieu of flowers, he asked if donations could to made to Local VFW posts, Moose Lodges, Humane Societies or SPCA's of your choice in honor of him.
