

He was born February 27, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Authur and Helen Griswold. LCDR Griswold began his military service at the tender age of 15 when he joined the Merchant Marines. He fought for our country during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In his career he earned many military awards, including the Bronze Star with V, Navy Commendation with V, and Combat Action Ribbon.
Affectionately known as Bob to his friends and family, he has been a Neptune Beach resident since 1972. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, VFW Post 3270 and the American Legion Post 316. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. LCDR Griswold was a honorable, hardworking, and generous gentleman who will be greatly missed.
LCDR Griswold was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Annie. He is survived by his three daughters, Margaret Gatti (Philip), Janet Griswold, and Linda Pierle (Keith), three grandsons, CAPT Robert Griswold Gatti (Stacy), Shane Watson, and Ryan Gatti, three granddaughters, Megan Gatti, Amber Pierle, and Ashlee Hodgson, and three great-grandchildren, Adrien, Aiden, and Alistair. Also surviving him are numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other close family members and friends from the New England area including the Corcorans and Millericks.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, followed by a reception at One Ocean Resort (formerly The Sea Turtle Inn), Atlantic Beach, Florida. A gathering will be held at his favorite watering hole, American Legion Post 316, Atlantic Beach, Florida (one more and I’m outta here) following the reception. A special thank you to Dr. Martin Zenni and his team at Shands Jacksonville for their exceptional care over the years and to Orlando Corn for her life saving soups. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in his honor to University of Florida & Shands Jacksonville, Division of Cardiology
