

Sigrid Jonsson Howell, 100, passed away peacefully in Denver, CO, on October 26. Born in Goteborg, Sweden, on January 8, 1917, the fifth of nine children, she came to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1939. Soon thereafter she met the love of her life, Charles Cook Howell, Jr. They were married December 14, 1940. and remained happily married until Charlies' death in 1990. Sigrid made her home in Jacksonville, Florida, for about 65 years before going to live with her daughter, Sonja, in Colorado.
Sigrid was a former member of Timuquana Country Club, Florida Yacht Club, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, St. Matthews Church Circle, the Inner Wheel (Rotary Club), Timuquana Country Club Women's Golf, Junior League of Jacksonville, and the Garden Club of Jacksonville. She was a Gray Lady at St. Vincent's. Sigrid loved golf, Gator football, and mahjong with her friends, and she was gifted in many artistic realms: knitting, painting, crocheting, and Chinese lacquer. A wonderful cook, Sigrid’s recipes often appeared in the Jacksonville Journal and The Florida Times-Union.
Sigrid is predeceased by her husband, Charles Cook Howell, Jr., her parents, Folke Doric and Olga Mims Jonsson, a grandson, John Moffitt Howell, Jr., and her eight siblings. She is survived by her four children: Charles Cook Howell III (Carolyn), Sonja Howell Baum (Chris), Una Howell Pardue (Dan), and John Moffitt Howell (Melody); nine grandchildren: Chanley Howell Dudley (Tommy), and Charles Cook Howell, IV; Chris, Nina, and Jack Baum; Sigrid Lyn Pardue and Daniel Gibson Pardue IV (Doreen); Laura Howell Lewis (Jason), James Howell (Kristen), and Jenna Howell; and five great-grand children: Charlie and Henry Dudley, Cuchulainn Rohlehr; Gibson, Connor, Russell, and Janie Pardue; and Jillian Lewis.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, November 15, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 1773 Blanding Blvd., with Fr. Luke officiating. A reception will immediately follow in The Schiavone Parish Center.
